Through a combination of theater, dance, electroacoustic music, and poetry, performance artist and composer Corey Smith argues for a new vision of the Midwest. Smith sings, speaks, gesticulates, and gyrates about the buildings of “America’s greatest architect,” in an attempt to understand the region he calls home. THE NEW PRAIRIE SCHOOL is an architecture tour underscored by a techno beat, a joyous dance about the long midwestern sky.
Boldly unconventional, THE NEW PRAIRIE SCHOOL dissects Wright’s ideas with humor, theatrical experimentation, and an exciting original musical score. This strange and beautiful performance is a reclaiming of Midwestern radicalism, a love song to the buildings and the people of flyover country.
THE NEW PRAIRIE SCHOOL is partially supported by an Individual Artist Program Grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events, as well as a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, a state agency through federal funds provided by the National Endowment for the Arts.
